Corner Brook Travel Guide

Take a scenic drive along shore of the Bay of Islands, or visit Gros Morne National Park, with its 600-meter cliffs that descend into the sea, only one hour away. There are numerous groomed trails from which to enjoy the rolling topography. The surrounding coastline holds magnificent fjords, jagged headlands, thickly forested mountains, offshore islands, and wildlife, all at the city’s doorstep. The landscape comes alive with colour in the autumn.

The downtown offers a wide choice of stores, restaurants and pleasant walking. The people of Newfoundland and Labrador are known worldwide for their open and friendly nature and their unwavering hospitality. Corner Brook Museum and Archives and the Railway Society of Newfoundland Historic Train Site offer glimpses into the region’s rich past. Corner Brook has twice hosted the Raid the North Extreme, a 6-day multi-sport wilderness expedition race.

Sir Wilfred Grenfell College, a division of the Memorial University of Newfoundland is located in Corner Brook. Corner Brook is the service centre for western and northern Newfoundland. Situated at the mouth of the Humber River, at the head of the Bay of Islands, the town has over 20,000 residents, the largest population outside the Avalon Peninsula. The town’s economy is diversified, with fishing, retail, railway and paper production. Corner Brook has the largest sound stage in Atlantic Canada, the centre of a small but growing film and television production industry.
