Christie’s latest exhibition is her most ambitious yet, showcasing over 80 paintings crafted over 6 months.

In this exhibition, Christie weaves the experience of the gallery’s space with the experience of the zones of the urban environment. She uses this to interpret the feelings of belonging, confusion, alienation, and possession that we feel as humans living in a part of the world that is experiencing dynamic change.

Her choice of subjects and formats is influenced by our interaction with the physicality of the paintings, ranging from the intimate to grand scale. Christie’s fluency with oil paint ensures each artwork resonates deeply with the viewer.

When understood as a body of work, the paintings in the exhibition transcend mere descriptions of the subject; they are the translations of relationships. The show is best described and understood not as individual works but as one painting experienced in parts:

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

Eighty 10″ x 10″ paintings, four 24″ x 24″ paintings, and one 36″ x 18″ painting weave the vibrant tapestry of urban life and capture the essence of the neighbourhood. Each stroke, each hue is intricately woven to narrate the moments and moods of familiar streets. and the neighbourhood. As you stand amidst this cluster of paintings, you’re enveloped by the sights, sounds, and sensations of bustling streets and hidden corners

THE ZONE

Three 84″ x 72″ paintings: These artworks eschew linear narrative, employing various elements and viewpoints. Each canvas explores the feeling of encountering an area of the city undergoing or about to undergo significant development. The cloth for each canvas is sewn together using the pre-development property lines as the pattern. The resulting seams leave an indelible impression, evoking the ghosts of vanished neighborhoods.

THE QUIET

Two 64″ x 96″ paintings inspired by the unique landscape that prescribes urban development. The unchangeable elements in our environment. Positioned opposite each other, these artworks transform a narrow space into a tranquil haven, inviting you to immerse yourself in their familiar and meditative ambiance.
