Wile Carding Mill

Built in 1860, this water-powered mill in Bridgewater is the only survivor of an early industrial park that included seven small workplaces.

(Museum)
Wile Carding Mill lightened the workload for local farm families until 1968. Women workers operated the machines that carded the wool. The mill ran six days a week in the busy season, 24 hours a day. One of its machines could card in one hour the same amount of wool that a person carded in a whole week.

The mill's overshot waterwheel still turns in its tranquil setting along Sandy Brook.
