Shippagan's Aquarium and Marine Centre

The Aquarium and Marine Centre is also a museum with close to 2000 square feets of exhibit space.

(Museum)
The permanent exhibit focuses on the contemporary fishing industry and the gear and equipment that it requires.

Visitors are greeted first by illustrations portraying different types of fish, aquaculture, fish habitats, and fishing gear. A life-size wheelhouse from a modern boat, equipped with all the electronic devices used by fishermen to locate and catch fish, is certainly the showpiece of the permanent exhibit.

As an attractive complement to the permanent exhibit, a 15-metre lighthouse, built in 1906 on Portage Island at the mouth of the Miramichi River, was transported to a site outside the Aquarium and Marine Centre and completely restored.
